SIZE: One size fits most.
MATERIALS: 2 50g
balls of worsted/Aran weight yarn. To achieve the stripes you can use a
self-striping yarn or 1 ball ea of 2 different colours.
-4.5 mm circular needle, 40 cm in length-4.5 mm double pointed needles, set of 4.
-Stitch marker
TENSION: 20 sts and 26 rows on
4.5 mm needles = 4 in (10cm)
TERMS USED:
k1tbl – knit 1 stitch through the back
loop.
m1 – make one stitch by lifting the
bar between 2 stitches and knitting into the back of it.
K2tog – knit two stitches together.
NOTE: To create the stripe effect, you
will be alternating between your two balls of yarn. The store sample was worked
alternating two rounds of ball A with two rounds of ball B. Do not break the
yarn when changing colours but carry up the 2 rows for its next use.
When changing yarns, always pick
up the new colour from underneath the old one.
DIRECTIONS:
Using
colour A and circular needle, cast on 80 stitches. Place marker and join to
work in the round being certain not to
twist your work.
Knit
2 rounds.
Change
to colour B and knit every row for one inch, remembering to alternate your colours every 2 rows.
Next Round: * k1tbl,p1. Repeat from * to end.
Repeat
this last round once more.
Knit
in rounds until work measures 6 inches from the cast on edge.
Increases:
1st round: *K8, m1. Repeat from * to end of
round. (90 sts)
Knit
2 rounds.
4th round: *K9, m1. Repeat to end of round.
(100 sts)
Knit
2 rounds.
7TH round: *K10, m1. Repeat to end of round.
(110 sts)
Knit
2 rounds.
10th round: *K11, m1 Repeat to end of round.
(120 sts)
Work
even for 10 rounds.
Decreases:
Note: When you no longer have enough stitches to fit comfortably around
the circular needle, change to the double pointed needles.
1st dec. round: *K10, K2tog. Repeat from * to end of round. (110sts)
Knit
one round even.
3rd round: *K9, K2tog. Repeat from * to end
of round. (100 sts)
Knit
one round even.
5th round: *K1, K2tog. Repeat from * to last
stitch, k1. (67 sts)
Knit
one round even.
7th round: *K2tog. Repeat from * to last
stitch, k1. (34sts)
Knit
one round even.
9th round: *K2tog. Repeat from * to end of
round. (17 sts)
Knit
one round even.
Break
your yarn, leaving a tail off at least 12 inches. Weave tail through the
remaining stitches and draw up tightly. Fasten yarn securely on inside and
weave in all ends.
